Four Kids and It (2020), directed by Andy De Emmony, is a heartwarming family fantasy film based on Jacqueline Wilson’s modern reimagining of E. Nesbit’s classic tale Five Children and It. The story centers around four children, from two separate families, who are brought together on a holiday in Cornwall due to their parents’ new relationship. Initially struggling with the challenges of forming a blended family, the kids stumble upon a magical, ancient creature known as the Psammead, voiced by the legendary Michael Caine. The Psammead, a grumpy yet endearing sand-dwelling creature, has the ability to grant wishes, but the magic only lasts until sunset, often leading to unintended and chaotic results.
As the children experiment with their newfound ability to make wishes, they learn valuable lessons about the consequences of their choices and the importance of working together. However, their adventures take a twist when they encounter Tristan (Russell Brand), a peculiar and self-serving historian who discovers the Psammead’s existence. Tristan, obsessed with obtaining the creature’s powers for his own greedy purposes, becomes a persistent threat to the children’s newfound bond and the Psammead’s freedom.
